Motorsport Diary: Kiwis competing abroad this weekend (12/1-14/1)

It’s finally here. We have our first race weekend of Kiwis competing abroad for 2024.

The year shakes up to be a massive one for New Zealanders overseas, with the Velocity News calendar showing there are international events featuring at least one Kiwi right up until the last week of November. That’s before all driver announcements have even been made!

We begin to work into the year with Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans’s highly-anticipated Formula E season opener in Mexico, the two now running as teammates for Jaguar TCS Racing.

We’re treated to some favourable viewing times for this one, with Sky’s coverage of the E-Prix beginning at 8.00 am on Sunday.

Nick Cassidy & Mitch Evans: Formula E Mexico City E-Prix

  • Where? Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Mexico City, Mexico
  • NZ Times:
    • Practice 1: Saturday 11.25 am
    • Practice 2: Sunday 2.25 am
    • Qualifying: Sunday 4.30 am
    • Race: Sunday 8.00 am
  • How to watch: Sky Sport 5

The ‘Kiwi Dream Team’. Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy begin their 2024 Formula E journey as teammates at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City for Jaguar TCS Racing.

The two enter the season amongst the favourites, with a combined career record of 15 wins, 37 podiums, 11 pole positions and 1,076 championship points to their credit.

Forty thousand spectators are expected to pack the venue as the series visits Mexico for the eighth time. The 19-turn, 2.630km circuit features long, fast straights and a technical infield section that is sure to start the 2024 season off in style.
