Motorsport Diary: Kiwis racing overseas this weekend (5/4-7/4)

It’s a quieter weekend this cycle, with Shane van Gisbergen featuring in the Xfinity Series as our only entry in the Velocity News calendar.

A strong showing in his maiden short-track oval outing at Richmond brings promise, with van Gisbergen’s 15th place coming down to a strategy call that failed to pay off.

If you’re missing your motorsport fix, there are some larger meets around New Zealand we recommend checking out, including Round 3 of the NZ Formula Ford Championship at Manfeild and Auckland Car Club’s meet at Hampton Downs.

The action picks up for a big next weekend before the ITM Taupo Super400 brings one of the busiest stretches on the calendar this year.

See below for van Gisbergen’s track times- we’ve taken Daylight Savings Time into account!

Shane van Gisbergen: Xfinity Series

  • Where? Martinsville Speedway, Virginia
  • NZ Times:

    • Race: Sunday 11.30 am
  • How to watch: ThreeNow (Race only)

This weekend, Shane van Gisbergen returns to action for Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series.

At 0.526 miles in length, the short oval is the shortest track on the NASCAR Cup calendar and is the only venue to have hosted a NASCAR Cup race every year since the division’s inception in 1949.

Van Gisbergen is 12th in the standings, 135 points off leader Chandler Smith.
