Overall winner’s title for 2024-2025 F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series

The six-round calendar for the thundering SAS Autoparts MSC NZ F5000 race car series includes the return of an overall driver’s title for the 2024-2025 summer season.

Running from November 2024 to April 2025, each race will award points to placegetters, which will count towards an overall champion’s title.

“There are also points for starting each race,” explained Glenn Richards, president of the F5000 association of cars that captivated and headlined motor racing in the 1970’s.

“The series has matured, and with the racing etiquette demonstrated over recent seasons the call to award a series champion has been answered. By finishing all races you’re going to be in strong contention for that title.”

Each of the six rounds will count toward the overall crown, which Richards describes as a trophy that reflects its winner’s accomplishment.

The season starts 8 November at Feilding’s Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon. The remaining five rounds are then run in 2025, starting with Taupo’s Historic GP event 10-12 January.

That’s followed a fortnight later with the NZIGP Legends of Speed being held at Hampton Downs and honours David Oxton – the five-time Gold Star champion.

A week later the series races at the annual SKOPE Classic at Christchurch’s Euromarque Motorsport Park.

It’s then a return to the north for the mid-March NZIGP Thunder at the Downs (Hampton Downs) and then four weeks until the season finale – the George Begg Festival, at Invercargill’s Teretonga Park.

Supporting the series is SAS Autoparts, MSC, NZ Express Transport, Bonney’s Specialised Bulk Transport, Mobil Lubricants, Nova Tyres, Webdesign, Exide Batteries and Pacifica Shipping – who sea freight the cars for the New Zealand events.

Their commitment ensures that this classic racing series remains a highlight of New Zealand’s motorsport calendar.
