Randle, Kostecki claim Sunday OTR SuperSprint poles

Thomas Randle will start on the pole for this afternoon’s Race 21 at the OTR SuperSprint at The Bend, while Brodie Kostecki will start this evening’s Race 22 from the front.

Randle backed up his maiden solo podium in yesterday’s race to take his first career pole for Race 21, with a 1:50.0684 was enough to get the job done. Kostecki was the only driver coming close, falling 0.05 seconds short.

Matt Payne’s incredible weekend has continued, with the Kiwi rookie qualifying third, two-tenths behind Randle. Payne has Shane van Gisbergen alongside on the second row and fellow Mustang drivers Anton de Pasquale and Chaz Mostert in the row behind.

Andre Heimgartner starts Race 21 from 14th, while Will Brown is 16th and Broc Feeney 11th.

Payne provisionally held pole mid-way through the qualifying for Race 22, an impressive 1:50.0804 on his second consecutive flyer seeing him over four-tenths to the good of the field.

He would return to the lane and rely on this time while others returned to the track for their final runs.

Randle was the first to eclipse Payne’s time and was followed by Nick Percat and then Cam Waters. Kostecki came through with a 1:49.4822 at the end of the session to claim pole by over four-tenths over Waters.

Randle and Percat lock out the second row ahead of Payne and De Pasquale on row three. Van Gisbergen qualified seventh for Race 22, while Feeney was again 11th and Heimgartner 14th.

Race 21 starts at 3.20 pm (NZ time), followed by the weekend’s finale at 6.20 pm.
