New Zealand’s Ronan Murphy will get his first taste of the famed Mount Panorama circuit next weekend when he lines up for an appearance in the Australian Sports Sedan Series, racing in support of the Bathurst 1000.

Murphy will drive the #77 Marc Ford Focus with the backing of Axles Earthmoving and Muscle Car Warehouse, who also sponsor him in the Porsche Sprint Challenge.

Murphy, 22, is the son of iconic Kiwi V8 Supercars driver Greg Murphy, who conquered the mountain four times with his 2003 qualifying run dubbed ‘The Lap of the Gods’. Greg Murphy will be a part of the broadcast team at Bathurst.

Ronan Murphy has experience through the New Zealand ranks, including in Formula First, Formula Ford and the Toyota 86 Championship, and a season abroad in the US Formula 4 Championship.

He has finished on the Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia podium three times in 2023, including taking a race win in Tasmania.

Also competing in the National Sports Sedan Series is Angus Fogg, who will race in his ever-popular Black & Gold J. A. Russell Ltd 1970 Fastback Mustang.

A provisional entry list of 32 competitors has been announced for next weekend’s round. The series will race three times over the weekend, following a qualifying session on Thursday, with two races on Friday and the finale on Saturday.

Next week’s Motorsport Diary will have further information on how to watch in New Zealand and at what times.
