Shane van Gisbergen reveals New Zealand Sprintcar schedule

Shane van Gisbergen will get back behind the wheel of Annette and Brian Theobald’s United Truck Parts #97 Sprintcar for seven meets across three tracks in the North Island.

Van Gisbergen’s first outing will come at Western Springs on December 14, before he returns to the same venue two weeks later on Boxing Day.

Two rounds at Baypark Speedway in Mount Maunganui follow on December 28 and December 30, before a New Years Day meet at Waikaraka Park in South Auckland.

Van Gisbergen’s Sprintcar schedule wraps up with two meets at Western Springs on January 2 and January 4, which will be his last time racing at the venue before it closes at the end of the 2024/25 season.

“Gutted to hear the news a few days ago about Western Springs closing at the end of this season so I’m happy to be able to run a few shows while home in NZ over summer,” van Gisbergen posted on social media.

Five of the seven dates also feature as rounds of the 2024/25 Midget World Series Calendar, which sees reigning two-time Chili Bowl Champion Logan Seavey joined by the likes of Michael Pickens, Brad Mosen, Kaidon Brown, and Zoe Pearce, among others.

The schedule concludes before the famed Chili Bowl Nationals in Oklahoma, dubbed the ‘Super Bowl of Midget Car Racing’, where van Gisbergen first admitted he may also drive in a Q and A session on Greg Rust’s ‘Rusty’s Garage’ Podcast back in June this year.

The 2025 Chili Bowl takes place on January 13-18.

Van Gisbergen’s full-time NASCAR Cup Series commitments in the United States do not begin until February 2.
