Supercars is preparing to have back-to-back weekends at the Townsville street circuit.
The Australian category will race this weekend for the NTI Townsville SuperSprint.
Now, suggestion is intensifying that a second round will be held a week later on July 17-18.
A primary reason for a doubleheader round is the recent second postponement of the Winton round.
Should Winton not be able to go ahead this season, a Townsville doubleheader will ensure the amount of rounds scheduled for the season remains the same.
A lack of accommodation for teams of both Supercars and support categories remains an issue due to the late announcement of this weekend’s event.
However, it is believed that plans are still afoot to host a second round with teams already in transit to Townsville.
Support rounds for this weekend include Super2, Porsche Carrera Cup, Toyota 86 and Super Trucks.
