A new generation Porsche 911 GT3 R has been showcased this week in a series of photographs released by the manufacturer. The incoming 992 models are set to replace the 991.2 versions which have been racing in competitions around the world since 2019.
The GT3-spec version is based on the Type 992 road version, with it’s specifications yet to be announced.
One of the key changes for the newer model is an increase in the driver assistance technology. A new software package is to be introduced to customers (teams) which will make set up for particular events much easier.
Such software updates will also allow for easier troubleshooting for teams, with only a single cable required for diagnostics creating a streamlined process to develop a smoother system for engineers.
In addition to these software updates, the GT3 R will have a larger cockpit, with the view and seat positioning being the core upgrades for drivers. An improved air conditioning system will also be incorporated, with driver comfortability the core focus of the announced upgrades thus far.
Extensive testing has already begun for the car, with practice runs at Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and Barcelona already under its belt.
2023 is shaping up to be a big year for the manufacturer, with last weeks announcement of the Porsche 963 LMDh-Spec prototype, which will compete at motorsports highest level in the WEC and IMSA.
