Auckland’s Toby McCormack is gearing up for another campaign in the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship after a strong 2024–25 season driving the Spectrum 015. The teenager is now opting for the slightly older 010 chassis.

Last season, McCormack delivered standout performances, claiming multiple race wins in the North Island and National championships, coming away with the North Island title and 3rd in the National title, just 1 point short of second.

In this season, McCormack showed his speed in Formula Ford, and he says that he is ready to claim the title this year. “We had a great season last year, obviously, the goal was the National title, but unfortunately, some bad luck prevented us from having a real shot.”

“We had a very difficult start to the season last year with mistakes from me and bad luck with the car having a few issues, which caused us to miss out on some strong results.”

“However, we are hoping that with our new car this year and an extra year of experience, we will be fighting to win every race, and then the National Title will come as well,” says McCormack

Toby demonstrated his speed in the second half of the year, winning four of the last seven races and finishing outside the top 2 only once. This year, he aims to build on this momentum throughout the entire season campaign.

“Last season definitely gave me the confidence that I had speed, but now, after being in my third year in the class and working with Michael Borland in Australia to bring over a new chassis, we know we will have the pace to be fighting up the front.”

McCormack will be debuting the car at the first round of the North Island Championship at Hampton Downs on the 5th of October, before heading down south to compete in the National Championship early next year.
