A huge turnout is expected at Western Springs tonight for a Boxing Day event which has drawn in talent from around New Zealand and abroad.
The event will be headlined by the World 30 Lap Midget Derby in addition to Sprint Car Masters, featuring a range of familiar faces.
Current USAC Midget Champion Buddy Kofoid will join American compatriots Ethan Mitchell, Taylor Reimer and Justin Grant in an attempt to de-throne a field of a further 32 of New Zealand’s best Midget racers.
The Sprint cars also feature some American flair, Jonathan Allard competing against over 20 New Zealand drivers, including Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen who is making his Western Springs debut.
Iconic Kiwi Speedway racer Michael Pickens will also compete in both classes.
It’s the first of three massive events at the park, the next, on New Years Day, dubbed the “Pickens 54 and Sprint Car Silver Crown”.
That’s followed just five days later by the 50 Lap Midget Classic and City of Sails Sprint Car Stampede.
Western Springs know how to put on a great event so these ones are definitely worth a watch.
