Shane van Gisbergen has put down a monster lap in the Top 10 Shootout to take pole position for this afternoon’s second race of the Gold Coast 500.

A 1min 10.3133 was enough for the 2022 Supercars champion to take top spot over Will Davison by .3236 of a second.

Keeping those two company from the second row will be Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert, the first two rows locked out by serious contenders come race time.

Davison ,off the front row, will be the man to beat should he replicate his race pace from yesterday. He finished in fourth but had charged through the field after a slow early stop to work his way back into podium contention.

Race 32 of the Supercars season starts at 5.15pm this evening.

Session Report

James Golding was the first driver up in his first ever appearance in a Top 10 Shootout, a good run slightly compromised by nudges on the wall at turns 11 and 13. A 1min 11.5127 set the early benchmark for the field.

Brodie Kostecki was the second to run, his pace apparent as he topped Golding by .5629 of a second.

Anton de Pasquale then went about trying to move up the order, also coming unstuck at Turn 11 with a massive slide almost putting him into the corner-exit tyre wall. He wasn’t able to better the times of those ahead.

Thomas Randle was next up, pipping Golding but no able to better Kostecki to provisionally sit second.

Scott Pye then went to the top of the leaderboard with his flyer, 1min 10.9116 not enough to out-qualify Mostert whose run proceeded his.

Waters then put a 1min 10.7202 to pip Mostert by just .0156 of a second and hold provisional pole with only David Reynolds and van Gisbergen to qualify.

Reynolds got scrappy through the back chicanes on his lap, not able to replicate the pace which saw him qualify top spot yesterday.

Davison did, however, top Mostert, a well put together run taking provisional pole by .0833 of a second.

Finally, yesterdays race winner van Gisbergen got underway, a fast first sector backed up by a purple mid-sector and final sector to take pole position.
