Ryan Wood has topped the sole Sydney SuperNight practice session with a late flyer at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Kiwi’s 1:30.5842 came in the closing stages of the 90-minute session to topple Nick Percat’s 1:30.6271 by just 0.0429 seconds.

Chaz Mostert was third quickest, four-hundredths behind, to see the top three split by less than one-tenth of a second.

Championship leader Will Brown improved on his final lap to end the session in fourth, over two-tenths behind the pace-setting Kiwi, while Broc Feeney was tenth.

Andre Heimgartner was the second fastest Kiwi, also improving on his final flyer with a 1:30.9134, which elevated him to seventh.

Matt Payne finished the session in 15th place, having lost time in the opening phases as Penrite Racing battled vibration issues with the Mustang’s rear.

The Townsville 500 race winner returned to the track and cut a total of 28 laps over 90 minutes.

Richie Stanaway was 17th, while Jaxon Evans was 25th, behind Tickford’s wildcard Lochie Dalton and Brad Jones Racing’s Macauley Jones.

The entire session ran without interruption.

The Sydney SuperNight Supercars action returns on Saturday with qualifying at 4.50 pm NZST, followed by the Top 10 Shootout at 6.55 pm and the night race at 9.35 pm.
