2025/2026 Mazda Racing Super Series Awards

by Velocity News

in Mazda Racing Series, New Zealand

Competitors and officials from the NZ Mazda Racing Super Series gathered in Lower Hutt recently to celebrate another season of great racing while recognising the achievements and efforts of many of their group.

Simon Baker (Kapiti) Masters title winner, Stu Lawton (Paraparaumu) 2nd overall, Callum Pratt (Auckland) 2025/2026 Mazda Racing Super Series National Champion, Alex Canty (Auckland) 3rd overall and James Black (Dunedin) Rookie Title winner. Image: Supplied

Callum Pratt of Whenuapai in Auckland was presented with the trophy for winning the National title with Stu Lawton of Paraparaumu and Alex Canty of Auckland, second and third respectively.

Simon Baker of Kapiti took the Masters (Over 50) honours while James Black of Dunedin was crowned Rookie Of The Year.

Bryan Walker (Christchurch) plus Black and Pratt, the members of Two and a Half Drivers, also won the Teams title.

There were several other presentations made on the night, with Pratt receiving the award for the Best Vehicle Presentation Of The Year, while Steve Brown of Auckland won both the Sportsman of the Year and the Personality Of The Year. Kayleigh Lawton was named Supporter of the Year, and Scott Mills was named Social Media Promoter of the Year. Jon Houston was the Volunteer Of The Year.

Amanda West was awarded the Craig Casey Memorial Trophy, while Al Marsh was inducted as a Life Member.

The awards evening went really well, with a lot of fun for all, wrapping up around 3 am after some attendees sang themselves raw in karaoke. Outgoing chair Steven Spear was coping with much banter that his presidency term would be remembered as ending with bad karaoke.

The series also held its AGM with new Office Bearers being named. Steven Spear has stepped down as Chairman, with Alex Canty taking over. Marc Denton is Deputy Chair, Bronwyn McGovern is Secretary, and Nigel Edger continues as Treasurer.

Preparations are underway for the 2026/2027 season with some exciting plans in the pipeline.

The series thanks its sponsors and supporters, Nexen Tyre NZ, Sovereign Insulated Garage Doors, Racetech NZ, LUMO, MRP Ltd – 4age Specialists, Omnigraphics New Zealand, PAK’nSAVE, Carnmore Hotel Collection and DBA Disc Brakes Australia.
