Anton de Pasquale takes another win, SVG second

Anton de Pasquale has converted his pole position into a race win in the second Supercars race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The field started the race in a mix of hard and soft tyres, with the track still damp, but not enough for wet tyres.

Shane van Gisbergen who finished second took advantage of a strong start on the drier side of the track pulling out an early gap over the field as they battled through the first turns.

Bryce Fullwood who started fourth made it past de Pasquale of the start line before the Mustang driver made it back past.

De Pasquale made use of his soft tyres to close the margin to van Gisgbergen, who was on the slower hard tyres.

Second in the championship, Jamie Whincup was forced to make a second pit stop after getting damage to his left rear tyre giving it a slow leak with just over 10 laps remaining.

Andre Heimgartner started the race strong, putting his soft tyres to good use fighting in the top 5 before the pit stops, going on to finish in seventh after a battle with Chaz Mostert late in the race.

With less than 10 laps left in the race, the rain surrounding the track started to close in with engineers starting to warn their drivers that it was becoming a threat again, though the weather held off for the end of the race.

Fabian Coulthard moved forward through the race finishing in 14th after starting in 18th.

The final race of the weekend will start at 9.30 pm tonight.
