After three years racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, Marcus Armstrong now has his sights set on the 2023 IndyCar Series.

The Kiwi recently wheeled a Dale Coyne Racing Honda around Sebring in the US and looks to be a strong candidate for a drive with the team next year according to multiple reports.

Team owner Dale Coyne told Motorsport.com that Armstrong is “a very good candidate for a ride with us.”

If chosen by the team, Armstrong will become the third full-time New Zealand driver on the IndyCar grid alongside Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin.

It would also be a dream come true for the 22-year-old as he has been inspired by the likes of Dixon throughout his entire racing career.

“IndyCar is the thing I want to do,” said Armstrong speaking with Racer.

He went on to say how he had been watching Dixon race since he was around two-years-old and has always been attracted to the IndyCar series.

Also present at the rookie test day was Hitech Grand Prix Racing teammate Juri Vips who tested for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team.

With just one round remaining in the 2022 F2 Championship, Armstrong will be looking to build on this year’s three race wins and move up the drivers standings.

Round 14 of the 2022 F2 Championship will get underway at Yas Island between 18 to 20 November.
