Victory slipped away at the final moment, but Earl Bamber still walked away from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca having stamped his authority all over the race.

From the moment the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R emerged as a front-runner, Bamber controlled the narrative. Whether it was managing traffic, executing clean restarts, or maintaining a consistent pace across stints, the Kiwi looked every bit the race winner as the clock wound down.
Sharing duties with Jack Aitken, the Cadillac combination executed a near-flawless race, putting themselves in a prime position at the head of the field entering the closing stages. With the laps ticking away, Bamber held the advantage and appeared to have the race firmly within his grasp.
That control, however, came under sudden threat in the dying minutes.
A late surge from Laurin Heinrich in the JDC-Miller Porsche 963 transformed the fight for victory. Rapidly erasing the gap, Heinrich arrived on Bamber’s rear bumper just as the race entered its final lap, setting up a high-pressure duel.
Bamber did everything right. His lines were precise, his defence measured, and his commitment unwavering through Laguna Seca’s technical middle sector. But with fresher grip and relentless momentum, Heinrich found a way through — sweeping around the outside before sealing the move heading toward Turn 5.
The margin at the flag was just over seven-tenths of a second, a narrow gap that told the story of a race decided in its final breaths.
While the result denied Bamber a deserved win, it did little to diminish the strength of his performance. He had dictated the race for the majority of its duration and absorbed intense pressure without error, only to be undone by a late charge that few could have resisted.

More significantly, the second-place finish continues a flawless run of consistency. Bamber and the No. 31 Cadillac have now stood on the podium at every round of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship so far, a streak that underlines both speed and execution across varying circuits and race conditions. It’s that consistency that is quietly building a championship campaign.
At Laguna Seca, the win may have slipped away in the final corners, but Bamber’s performance reinforced a bigger picture: he and Cadillac remain firmly in control of the title fight, and it feels like only a matter of time before that relentless podium streak converts into victory.
