Bathurst 12 Hour to start Intercontinental GT Challange season

The SRO Motorsports Group has announced its 2022 Intercontinental GT schedule, featuring the Bathurst 12 Hour as the opening event.

The Bathurst round will make its return after the 2021 event was cancelled due to the pandemic and restrictions getting into Australia.

The season will also see races at Spa-Francorchamps, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Kyalami.

The Bathurst race has been delayed to March 18-20 from its traditional date in February, with the hope that travel restrictions into Australia will have eased.

However, the new race date will see the 12 Hour race clash with the joint Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring and 1000 Miles of Sebring event.

SRO founder and CEO Stephane Ratel revealed the calendar at a recent press conference.

“It is later than usual, but it should give teams more time to prepare and, of course, the travel situation it is improving in Australia,” Ratel said

“We are very confident that it will be possible to travel to Australia by the end of March.”

Ratel also explained the absence of the Suzuka 10 Hours from the 2022 calendar.

“We won’t go to Japan next year, because there are still quite a lot of uncertainties about Asia,” he added.

2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli Schedule:

March 18-20 – Bathurst 12 Hour

July 29-31 – TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa

Oct. 8-9 – Indianapolis 8 Hour

Nov. 26-27 – Kyalami 9 Hour
