Nick Cassidy produced a measured and intelligent drive to win the 2026 Mexico City E-Prix, charging from 13th on the grid to deliver Citroën their first victory in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The Kiwi made the most of a chaotic race and perfectly timed his Attack Mode deployments to move through the field and take control in the closing stages. It was only Citroën’s second race in the championship and followed Cassidy’s podium finish in the São Paulo season-opener.
Qualifying had been mixed for the New Zealanders. Mitch Evans advanced through to the duels and secured fourth on the grid for Jaguar TCS Racing, while Cassidy endured a tougher session and lined up 13th. Sébastien Buemi took pole position for Envision Racing.
The race was turned on its head almost immediately when Buemi ran wide at Turn 1 on the opening lap, dropping out of contention. Taylor Barnard inherited the lead ahead of Edoardo Mortara, Evans, Nico Müller, and Jake Dennis. Cassidy benefited from the incident, gaining a position and passing Lucas di Grassi to move into 11th within the opening corners.

Evans initially ran strongly in the lead group but slipped back to seventh by Lap 5 as the field settled. Cassidy remained just outside the top ten, managing his energy and staying clear of trouble.
A Full Course Yellow and subsequent Safety Car were deployed on Lap 17 when Nyck de Vries stopped in the Turn 1 runoff area. At that stage, Evans was eighth and Cassidy 11th, with both drivers still holding both of their Attack Mode activations. Racing resumed on Lap 22 with 14 laps remaining, plus two added laps to make up for the interruption.
Shortly after the restart, Evans began to make progress. He moved up to sixth and activated his first four-minute Attack Mode on Lap 25. The Jaguar driver continued his charge and, with under a minute of boost remaining, took the lead on Lap 28.

Cassidy had activated his first six-minute Attack Mode on Lap 27 and was moving quickly through the field. Mortara passed Evans for the lead on Lap 29, before Cassidy followed through and moved into second.
On Lap 30, Cassidy took over the race lead with two minutes of Attack Mode still available, along with a final two-minute deployment for later in the race.
Evans’ race then began to slip away. By Lap 32, he had fallen back to seventh and by Lap 34 he was down in 11th. Activating his final four-minute Attack Mode, Evans became stuck in a long train of cars all using their boost, limiting his ability to make forward progress.
At the front, Cassidy and Mortara pulled clear and ran nose-to-tail over the final laps. Mortara closed to within a few tenths but was unable to find a way past.
Cassidy held on to take the win, securing Citroën’s first Formula E victory in just their second event. Mortara finished second with reigning world champion Oliver Rowland completing the podium.

Evans crossed the line in 11th after briefly leading the race.
The result moves Cassidy to the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings after two rounds of the season.
