Chili Bowl Nationals Champion Logan Seavey set for NZ Speedway outings

Reigning two-time Chili Bowl Champion Logan Seavey is heading to New Zealand this summer for a series of Speedway races around the North Island.

Seavey will join Green Way Racing, who also field New Zealand Champion Brad Mosen, for the five-round Midget World Series, which begins with the 30-Lap World Derby at Western Springs Speedway on December 26.

Rounds at Baypark Speedway on December 28 and 30 follow before the series returns north for ‘The Fast 40’ at Waikaraka Park on New Year’s Day and the 50-lap Midget Classic at Western Springs a day later.

Seavey has won the last two editions of the highly acclaimed Chili Bowl Nationals, considered the ‘Super Bowl of Midget Car racing’, run annually in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In 2018, he became just the third series rookie to win the USAC National Midget Championship, following in the footsteps of Danny Caruthers (1971) and current NASCAR Cup star Christopher Bell.

The 27-year-old American partnered with Green Way Racing later that year for the 2018/19 series, where he teamed up with Zach Daum.

He currently competes full-time for Abacus Motorsports, driving the #57 USAC Midget. He also drives the #5B SprintCar for Briscoe Racing on a part-time basis.

His trip to New Zealand is a significant coup for dirt track racing, with Seavey competing in the series in the lead-up to the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals, which takes place just two weeks later. If successful in Tulsa, he will become just the third driver to win the prestigious event three consecutive times.

Seavey is the first international signing for the 2024/25 Midget World Series, with several more expected over the coming months.

Previous competitors include Kyle Larson, Bell and Michael ‘Buddy’ Kofoid.

Ten-time NZ Champion Michael Pickens triumphed in the 2022/23 series, pipping Kofoid in the final event.
