New Zealand-born racer Ayrton Hodson has made a dramatic Australian Sprintcar debut at Toowoomba Speedway, showing immediate speed before his night ended in a frightening rollover.

Competing at the venue for the first time, Hodson was quick from the outset, going P1 in his group to third overall, despite battling brake issues for the entire night.
The performance was a strong reminder of Hodson’s dirt-track roots, with the young driver having started his career in speedway before transitioning into circuit racing across Toyota 86, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, TA2, Aussie Racing Cars and the Dunlop Super2 Series.
While the night ended with a significant rollover and damage to the car, Hodson was able to walk away from the incident.
“It was definitely an eventful way to make my Australian Sprintcar debut,” Hodson said.
“The rollover was a big one, but I’m okay, and that’s the main thing. The pace was there, and I absolutely loved being back on the dirt.”

The team is now assessing the car and waiting on an update to determine whether it will be ready to race this weekend at Maryborough Speedway for Queensland Sprintcar Title night.
It forms part of a packed racing schedule for Hodson, who will then head to Tasmania for Aussie Racing Cars the following weekend, before jumping back into his Dunlop Super2 Series car with Matt Stone Racing for Round 2 at Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin.
Hodson’s ability to move between dirt and tarmac continues to underline his versatility, with the Gold Coast-based racer building momentum across multiple national categories.
