Will Davison will have the best opportunity to grab his first Supercars win since 2016 after claiming both pole positions for today’s races at Hidden Valley.

Davison will start alongside Shane van Gisbergen for both races; the Kiwi splitting both Dick Johnson Racing Mustangs on each occasion as Anton De Pasquale ended up third quickest.

A pair of ten minute sessions determined the grid for both races.

The circuit was still dirty from yesterday, which allowed teams to conserve a set of green rubber by running old, used tyres.

A cheeky play from van Gisbergen on his out lap ensured he had given himself a tow for his flying lap.

That lifted him to the top of the timesheets. Though it was a late flyer from Davison that demoted van Gibsergen off the number one spot.

Mark Winterbottom was buried well down in the running order for most of the session but did surge to the fourth fastest time at the chequered flag.

The two other Kiwis were mired in the lower reaches of the field.

Andre Heimgartner will start 18th, while Fabian Coulthard was 22nd.

The second qualifying session followed a similar pattern to the first, though this time around it was Erebus’ Will Brown who headed initial proceedings before Davison snagged pole.

Davison’s 1.04.955 also re-set the lap record for the Darwin circuit in a Supercar.

It snatches away the record that was breifly held by teammate De Pasquale after yesterday’s shootout.

The result also means the DJR has claimed five successive pole positions this season, a feat the team has done at least once over the past three seasons.

Heimgartner and Coulthard will have better track position come the second race this afternoon, starting from 13th and 17th.

Race 13 of the championship will begin at 2.35 pm NZT.
