Anton De Pasquale has topped the final practice session for the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400.
The Penrite Racing driver set a 1m56.6379 to preside the top of the timesheets at the chequered flag.
David Reynolds finished the session behind his teammate. The duo split by a mere 0.2857s. The session also acts as warm-up for this evening’s dual qualifying sessions for races one and two, thus teams were eager to showcase their true one-lap potential.
Fastest in the morning’s earlier practice Jamie Whincup had a more subdued session finishing in fourth.
Championship leader Scott McLaughlin is still yet to show his true pace, concluding the session in eleventh, 1.15 seconds down on the fastest time.
The session came to an abrupt halt two-minutes from the flag when Macauley Jones suffered a crash into turn one.
The CoolDrive racing Commodore misjudging the first turn and crashing heavily into the barriers. Jones looked unhurt in the accident but it seems unlikely he will be out for the two qualifying sessions this afternoon.
Kiwi Andre Heimgartner began his session on the back foot as he reported a soft brake pedal in the early goings of the session. The Kelly Racing team were swift in their repairs to send Heimgartner back out on track, finishing the session in 23rd.
The opening day of the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 will conclude tonight with a pair of ten-minute qualifying sessions to set the grid the round’s opening two races.
