Scott Dixon posted the fourth quickest lap in today’s final Indianapolis Motor Speedway open test.

After yesterday’s washout, which saw Dixon complete only nine laps, the defending series champion was met with significantly drier conditions.

In total, Dixon toured the Indy oval 126 times.

His best lap was posted midway through the day, with his average speed clocked at 225.906mph.

Penske returned to top form today with Josef Newgarden finishing at the top of the timesheets with a 226.819 lap.

Behind Dixon, Graham Rahal boasts setting the fastest non-tow assisted lap.

The second best non-tow lap went the way of rookie Scott McLaughlin.

The Kiwi turned the most laps of anyone in the field – 195 laps, almost an entire Indy 500 race distance.

He ultimately settled for the 18th quickest lap on the overall standings.

I love this place,” McLaughlin said. “Nothing prepares you for this place.

“The sensation of speed, hearing the wind, setting up for the corners and the way it funnels down doing into Turn 1, I can’t imagine what it’s like when this joint is packed.

“There’s no place like it and I’m so excited to be part of it.”

Juan Pablo Montoya finished a notable third on his return to Indy after a four year absence.

Testing is now wrapped up for the 2021 IndyCar season. The first race will be next weekend with the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama on April 18.
