Earl Bamber will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway later this month with Richard Childress Racing.
The Kiwi sportscar ace who usually competes in the GT Le Mans class for Porsche in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship announced last night he will make a dream debut in the stock car series piloting a fearsome Chevrolet Camaro.
“I’ve dreamed about competing in NASCAR my entire life, so I am so thankful to Richard Childress, KCMG and everyone who has played a role in creating this opportunity for me,” said Bamber.
“I know that RCR has a storied history of cultivating talent and will give me all of the tools I need to succeed. I’m looking forward to the race.”
The reigning WeatherTech SportsCar GTLM champion is slated to compete at Road America this weekend for the fourth round of the championship where he and teammate currently sit second in the standings having scored a podium in each race.
The Kiwi had only recently confirmed his Malaysian-based GT team earl Bamber Motorsport had withdrawn from this year’s 24 Hours of Spa. But the American-domicilied Bamber is able to compete in his NASCAR debut without any clashes with his IMSA commitments.
His NASCAR debut comes as little surprise after, former CART driver Brian Bonner tweeted a photo of RCR’s #21 hauler with Bamber’s name listed on the side.
“It’s extremely special for KCMG to be aligned with Earl Bamber and Tyler Reddick this year,” said team owner Richard Childress.
“These two up-and-coming drivers have shown talent and promise. I’ve been watching Earl for a number of years, and I’m pleased to have him join RCR’s strong NASCAR Xfinity Series program.”
Bamber’s NASCAR debut will be staged on the road course at Daytona on August 15.
