Rookie Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Broc Feeney has claimed his maiden win in this afternoon’s VALO Adelaide 500 race.
While he wasn’t young enough to take the youngest ever Supercars race win claim off of Scott McLaughlin, he has become the youngest ever winner at Adelaide.
Not only is the win significant for the 20-year-old, claiming its the best moment of his life, but it also marks the Holden brand’s final ever win in Supercars.
“I can’t believe it. It’s been an awesome year, I felt like the win’s always been close,” Feeney said.
“To get it at the last race in front of all these fans for Holden, it means so much. To everyone who’s supported me, it’s been one hell of a ride.”
Feeney started the race in third position with teammate Shane van Gisbergen behind in fourth who quickly pipped the rookie on the start.
After pushing ahead of the Ford pair of Anton de Pasquale and Will Davison up front, van Gisbergen was determined to claim one last win for the season.
Although the Kiwi crossed the line in first, he was relegated to seventh upon receiving a Safety Car infringement. That didn’t stop him from celebrating with a godly pit straight burnout though.
With Feeney first, Chaz Mostert finished second after starting the race in fifth, and De Pasquale completed the podium in third.
Fourth place went to Cam Waters, fifth to Kiwi Andre Heimgartner, and sixth to Will Brown.
Rounding out the top ten positions was van Gisbergen, Brodie Kostecki, Lee Holdsworth, and James Golding respectively.
While there’s no more Supercars races to look forward to this year, we’re excited to see what 2023 brings when the new Gen3 cars come into play.
The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will begin in Newcastle next March.
