Bryn Jones is set to return to Chaves, Portugal this week, one year after making his international rally debut at Rali da Água, with the New Zealander and co-driver Max Freeman preparing for Round 3 of the Peugeot Rally Cup Portugal.
Rali da Água holds a special place in Jones’ rallying career. In 2025, the event marked his first international rally, where he finished 19th overall and sixth in class.
“I am really looking forward to heading back to Chaves this week,” said Jones.
“Such good memories were made there last year, and they played a big part in making the trip worthwhile.”
A year on, Jones returns with considerably more experience on European roads and is looking to build on the performance that saw him finish inside the top six of the Peugeot Rally Cup on his international debut.
“Our result last year showed what we were capable of in our first rally abroad,” he explained.
“I’d love to see what we can do on more familiar roads now that I’ve got more experience on the tarmac surface.”
Preparations for the event have also included a test in Fafe, giving Jones and the PT Racing team an opportunity to work through some final setup changes ahead of the rally.
“We made a few small changes during testing today to try some different things with the car, but the feeling was really good,” said Jones.
That experience has continued to build throughout 2026, with Jones gaining valuable seat time both in Portugal and Wales. His most recent outing came at the Mewla Stages, where he finished 27th overall on the Epynt Military Ranges.
“I had the pleasure of competing at the Mewla Stages a couple of weeks ago,” Jones said.
“Although it was pouring with rain, I felt like I was starting to become more comfortable on the surface.”
The additional experience has given Jones confidence heading into the third round of the Peugeot Rally Cup Portugal, with the aim of continuing to develop his pace and consistency.
“I believe we can only continue to build on that feeling,” Jones added.
“It will be great to get back into the Peugeot and see what we can do.”
