USF2000
Rookie duo Billy Frazer and Peter Vodanovich (main image) experienced another successful day of USF2000 pre-season testing at Barber Motorsport Park.
Frazer ended the day with the ninth quickest lap and the second-fastest debutant, with Vodanovich only a few tenths adrift.
The one-hour morning session proved to have the best track conditions, with the majority of the field posting their fastest lap of the two-day test.
Frazer nicked off over 1.5-seconds from yesterday, posting a 1.21.457 on his final lap of the morning.
Vodanovich would also find significant improvements and better his day one time by 1.2s. The former Toyota 86 champion’s best time was a 1.21.915, which was also set in the morning rush hour.
The first 16 drivers are covered by one second on the timesheets, with Vodanovich’s best lap placing him 17th out of the 23-strong field.
Frazer’s teammate Christian Brooks was again the fastest driver at the end of the day, finishing one-tenth up on Prescott Campbell.
Both Kiwi hopefuls had incident-free test sessions, racking up a healthy number of laps across the two days. Vodanovich toured the 2.3-mile circuit 142 times while Frazer was just behind with 132 total laps.
The five hours of testing ran uninterrupted, with green flag running throughout.
Indy Pro 2000
Hunter McElrea was just over a tenth off the fastest lap on the final day of the Indy Pro 2000 test, finishing fourth overall.
The Kiwi’s best time came in the morning, setting a 1.17.006 midway through the hour-long session.
Sitting out the day’s final session, McElrea ended the two-day test by finishing inside the top-five in every session he participated in.
Manuel Sulaiman set the best time of the day early in the morning before crashing out in the final corner moments later.
That left the Mexican driver out of action for the lunch session, though he would return for the final one-hour blast in the afternoon, which he would top.
This year’s Indy Pro 2000 season is shaping up to be another barnburner, with the 17-car field all separated by 1.308s.
With testing for our Kiwi trio now wrapped up, attention turns to the first round of the year at Barber Motorsport Park on April 16-18.
