The Imola round of the World Superbike Championship initially scheduled for next month has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Having already started the season at Phillip Island, the pandemic has led to several events being postponed and / or cancelled.
The reshuffling of the schedule meant that Imola was to host the second round of the championship from May 8 to 10. However, a revised schedule to did not include the Italian track.
The FIM released a statement regarding the event:
“It is with regret that after a range of scenarios being discussed and reviewed and in agreement with circuit officials, that the Acerbis Italian Round at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari [Imola] has been cancelled.”
Other changes include the Aragon round, which has been shifted from its original May date to August 28-30, while Misano has now been assigned the season-closer on November 6-8.
