Just one day remains until racing begins at the ITM Christchurch Super 440, and international motorsport returns to Christchurch on the South Island of NZ.

The Supercars Championship enters the second leg of back-to-back events in New Zealand this weekend, with its inaugural event at Ruapuna Raceway.

Christchurch already has a rich history in international motorsport, with Wigram Airfield having hosted motor racing from 1949 to 1994, including some of the sport’s biggest names from Bruce McLaren to Allan Moffat, and many others.

Kiwi Supercars driver Andre Heimgartner visited Wigram on Wednesday, driving a promotional Toyota Supra on what was the start/finish straight, the only remaining stretch of the circuit.

He was joined by an F5000 car, which raced at the venue in the 1970s, where the Lady Wigram Trophy was up for grabs.

Heimgartner will climb aboard his Toyota GR Supra Supercar tomorrow morning as the ITM Christchurch Super 440 gets underway.

Following the cancellation of Sunday’s race in Taupō last weekend due to Cyclone Vaianu, Supercars has added a race to tomorrow’s action in Christchurch.

Supercars will hold one practice from 9:35 a.m. NZST, with qualifying at 2:15 p.m., and Race 10 of the 2026 season beginning at 4:35 p.m.

The driver who scores the most points across the Taupō and Christchurch events will be awarded the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named for beloved Kiwi driver Jason Richards, who succumbed to cancer in 2011.

Kiwi Ryan Wood currently leads Broc Feeney in the battle for the JR Trophy, with four races to go to determine this year’s winner.

Live coverage of the ITM Christchurch Super 440 can be found on Kayo and Foxtel in Australia, and Sky Sport in New Zealand.

Tickets and corporate hospitality options for Supercars’ inaugural event on the South Island of New Zealand can be found via Supercars.com and Ticketek NZ.
