Motorsport excitement is set to ignite Northland as the International Rally of Whangārei roars into Dargaville and Ruawai on Saturday, 8 November 2025, as part of the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC).

The internationally recognised rally event will bring top-tier drivers and teams from across New Zealand, and entrants from around the world, to compete on some of the most challenging and scenic gravel roads in the country.
The inclusion of the roads around Dargaville and Ruawai in the 2025 route promises a thrilling spectacle for local fans and visitors alike.
Rally cars will speed through closed stages in Kaipara’s rural heart, giving spectators the chance to witness world-class rallying right on their doorstep. Local communities are expected to benefit from a surge in visitors, hospitality sales, and media exposure for the day.
“We’re thrilled to bring the rally to Dargaville and Ruawai for Day 1 of the International Rally of Whangārei. The roads in this area are fast, flowing, and technical — everything rally drivers love.” Event Promoter Simon Bell said
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase Northland’s unique landscape and community spirit on the national stage.”
The International Rally of Whangārei is a cornerstone of the NZRC as the final round in 2025. The NZRC has long been recognised as one of the most competitive rally championships in the Southern Hemisphere.
The 2025 edition will mark another milestone in the event’s history, combining international participation, regional pride, and grassroots enthusiasm.
“Each year, the rally brings thousands of fans to the Northland region, with the event based in the vibrant city of Whangārei. Expanding our footprint to include Dargaville and Ruawai in 2025 highlights our commitment to involving more communities in this incredible motorsport experience,” added Simon Bell.
The event runs on volunteers. And each year, we are on the hunt for local sports or community groups to assist with the event via stage marshalling. We offer a group a donation should they take up an entire stage.
So local volunteers, service clubs, and schools are being encouraged to take part in event operations, fundraising, and hospitality efforts by contacting the event using our event portal: https://volunteers.rallynewzealand.com/
A huge thanks must go to the Whangārei District Council and Kaipara District Council. Without their support, our event would not have access to these amazing roads.
The event team are excited to work with the Whangārei District Council for the 18th year, with amazing support from Mayor Vince Cocurullo and his Whangārei events team.
