Jaxon Evans claimed a win and a second on his guest return to the French Porsche Carrera Cup over the weekend.
The defending champion of the series qualified on the front row for the opening race at the Paul Ricard circuit, then got a stunning start to beat polesitter Dorian Boccolacci on the dash to turn one.
Evans established a comfortable one second buffer over the chasing pack as Boccolacci wrestled with Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer for second.
By the time Boccolacci had got back ahead of Simmenauer, his deficit to Evans was too great to overcome.
Thus, Evans eased home to a 1.4s victory – his third win in a row for French Carrera Cup races he had contested.
Race two had Evans and Boccolacci go head-to-head on the front row for a second time.
However, Boccolacci made amends for yesterday’s slow start to fend off Evans and maintain the lead into turn one.
Evans looked content to sit behind his rival, biding his time before pouncing.
When he did make his push forward, the Kiwi closed to within a car length of Boccolacci and mirrored every move.
But stout defence from Boccolacci sealed him the race win, while Evans resisted a late onrush from Florian Latorre following a small mistake.
This year, Evans is racing the full World Endurance Championship with Dempsey-Proton Racing, as well as the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which kicks off this weekend at Monaco.
