Jaxon Evans is the latest kwi to join a packed field of 52 cars that will take to the grid in the ARG eSport Cup beginning tonight from Mount Panorama.
The 23-year-old from Levin who won the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship is the son of TCR Australia Cupra car owner John Evans, operating under the Gargae1 entry. Evans will compete in a two-car Garage1 outfit alongside the team’s regular driver Tim Brook.
Evans is also preparing for the inaugural Porsche Mobil 1 SuperCup virtual edition which gets underway this weekend.
Another one of the biggest signings to the series is 2007 V8 Supercar Championship title winner Garth Tander.
Tander made a handful of starts in last year’s TCR Australia championship in the Audi RS 3 LMS, claiming a win from Tailem Bend and four other podium finishes.
Other big names to join the series includes TCR Australia champion Will Brown, ex-Supercar drivers Steven Johnson and Jason Bargwanna, and 2017 British Touring Car Champion Ash Sutton.
Tonight kicks off the first in a ten-round virtual championship run on the popular subscription-based iRacing platform.
The first round at Bathurst sees drivers compete in the turbo-charged Audi RS TCR, with every subsequent round being raced in a Formula 3 car.
The race can be streamed via TCR Australia’s YouTube channel from 10 pm NZT.
