Formula 1 reserve driver Liam Lawson continues his relationship with the Tony Quinn Foundation in 2024 while he patiently waits for a full-time drive.
The TQF has been supporting Lawson’s international racing activities for the past three years and was delighted when he earned his five-race F1 stint last year and finished runner-up in the Japanese Super Formula championship.
“It’s not often that you come across a driver that is the complete package and we hold a firm belief that he is going to go all the way. We look forward to seeing Liam on the top step of an F1 Podium one day,” said founder Tony Quinn.
In the meantime, Lawson travels to every round of the F1 championship as reserve driver cover for both the Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls teams.
“It’s a privilege to be part of the TQF and I’m extremely grateful for the support they’ve given not only me but so many drivers from New Zealand,” said Lawson.
“I was honoured to be the first international recipient of TQF support, and I enjoy the opportunity to catch up with Tony, Josie and the team whenever I’m back home, especially at Highlands, which is my favourite race track in the world. I also enjoy meeting the members and taking people on hot laps.”
The TQF provides hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of annual support for New Zealand motor racing, from grassroots Formula Ford racing to supporting scholarship winners in the Toyota 86 and CTFROC series, arranging a V8 Supercar test prize-drive and providing individual grants for local drivers as well as the likes of Callum Hedge, Liam Sceats and Lawson to race overseas.
