Brendon Leitch and Billy Frazer shared race wins in the latest round of KartSport New Zealand’s “Virtual Club Day” series held on Tuesday evening.
Utilizing Mazda MX5’s around the Okayama International Circuit in Japan, Ryan Wood set the pace early on to take pole position for the first of two races.
An exhilarating race-long battle between Wood and Frazer set the tone throughout the race. However, it was Frazer that emerged victorious while Wood would hang on to his coattails for second place while Taylor Cockerton would round out the top three.
The second race was another 15-lapper, but with added stipulation of a reverse top-22 grid, meaning Frazer would have to start from 22nd.
Wood meanwhile would not make the start owing to a technical issue.
Frazer worked his way up the grid to finish in third place, behind F4 champion Conrad Clark – who had started from pole position – and eventual winner, Brendon Leitch.
Wellington junior Ben Stewart was unlucky not to achieve better results after having been one of the fastest drivers in qualifying. Unfortunately, an incident in race one forced him to retreat to the pits. Nevertheless, a stirring drive saw Stewart finish in a well-deserved sixth place.
