Leitch and Leipert Motorsport lead every lap in 24 Hours of Dubai class win

Brendon Leitch and Leipert Motorsport have continued their winning ways together, claiming class honours in 24 Hours of Dubai.

Leitch and his four teammates JJ Song, Gerhard Watzinger, Don Youn, and Takis dominated a race of attrition on January 11-12 to take out GTX honours at the Dubai Autodrome.

The No.910 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO II finished 37 laps ahead of its nearest class rivals 111 Racing with its IRC GT. Overall, Leipert Motorsport finished 33rd in the 64-car field.

The team escaped a couple of scares across the 24-hour race, colliding with a faster GT3 car during the night before stalling soon after sunrise following a spin.

Thankfully, the team had established an enormous lead early on, allowing them to consolidate. Leitch began the race and kept pace with the GT3 cars briefly before putting two laps on the GTX cars inside the first two hours.

From there, it was a case of maintaining the lead as the driving duties were shared between the five pilots.

“It was a fun race! We had great speed, the team did a fantastic job. It was almost perfect if not for a few contacts in the night and a spin in the day,” said Leitch.

“I really enjoyed doing another 24 hour race and I’m looking forward to the next one already.”

Leitch will return to Australia for the Bathurst 12 Hour on January 31-February 2 before heading back to the United Arab Emirates for the Asian Le Mans Series double-header at Dubai Autodrome and the Yas Marina Circuit on February 8-9 and 15-16.

“The next few weeks are pretty busy. There is a lot of testing to do but it will be good to go to Bathurst without having had much of a break in between races,” said Leitch.

“It’s pretty crazy to have such a high-profile race so early on in the year but it’s incredible to be in this position driving one of the most popular GT3 cars on the grid with a top team like Wall Racing.

“I’m also really excited to get back with the Earl Bamber Motorsport boys and girls to finish off strong in the Asian Le Mans Series. We definitely didn’t have the start to the season that we would have liked but there is massive potential in the car.”
