Liam Lawson thrills crowds at Highlands, raising vital funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ in tribute to Louise Scott-Gallagher

In a heartwarming display of speed, community spirit, and remembrance, Formula 1 star Liam Lawson returned to his Kiwi roots yesterday at Highlands Motorsport Park, delivering an unforgettable day of hot laps and fan interactions that raised over $50,000 for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

The event honoured the memory of Louise Scott-Gallagher, a cherished friend of Highlands CEO Josie Spillane, who tragically passed away from breast cancer in May 2025 at just 44 years of age.

Thousands of motorsport enthusiasts and Drive to Survive fans flocked to the Cromwell circuit for what proved to be a “bittersweet” yet triumphant occasion, as described by Louise’s husband Craig Gallagher, who was there to support the day with their 2-year-old daughter Lily.

To have Liam racing here today and raising so much money for the Breast Cancer Foundation is so impressive.”

Lawson, the Racing Bulls driver and New Zealand’s rising F1 sensation, piloted exclusive supercars, including the Aston Martin Vulcan, Porsche GT3, and Shane van Gisbergen’s Red Bull Ampol Racing Bathurst-winning Chevrolet Camaro Gen3, offering thrill-seeking passengers the ride of a lifetime through silent auctions and charity experiences.

The initiative, sparked by Spillane’s personal loss, transformed grief into action, spotlighting the importance of breast cancer research and support.

A key highlight was the generous support from Shaw and Partners Financial Services, Highlands’ new GT Partner, who sponsored one of the three exclusive Aston Martin Vulcan hot laps by covering the auction value, enabling a lucky fan to win the experience in a charity draw, complete with flights and accommodation.

Their contribution, alongside successful bidders and donors, propelled the Vulcan laps alone to raise a staggering $32,650, amplifying the event’s impact and showcasing their commitment to New Zealand motorsport and community causes.

“Yesterday was about more than just racing; it was a powerful tribute to Louise, whose vibrant spirit and kindness touched so many lives,” said Josie Spillane, CEO of Highlands.

“Liam’s generosity in giving us his time helped us raise crucial funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, ensuring her legacy continues to drive real change. We’re overwhelmed by the community’s support and the joy on every face.”

Lawson was blown away by the day, “ I can’t believe how many people were here, and how much money was raised for Breast Cancer. I’ve known Josie and Tony a long time, and was so happy to come and help – and drive the Vulcan of course!!

The day kicked off with Lawson greeting fans, signing autographs, and posing for photos, creating magical moments for young admirers and lifelong motorsport fans alike.

Proceeds from the auctions and donations will directly benefit Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s efforts in research, awareness, and patient support – vital work in a country where breast cancer affects thousands annually.

The event not only exceeded fundraising goals but also reinforced Highlands’ community role in giving back.

Highlands extends its deepest gratitude to Liam Lawson, Shaw and Partners, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for making the day a resounding success.
