Several local Southland Sports Car Club (SSCC) members are big contenders for success when Round 2 of the South Island Endurance Series takes place at Teretonga Park in Invercargill on Saturday (4 October).

In the feature 3 Hour race on Saturday afternoon, club member and current Lamborghini Pro-Am World Champion Brendon Leitch will line up with young Aucklander Matt Day in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the GT Class.

In a similar car in the GT Class comes another club member, Glen Brazier of Invercargill, who is paired with Andrew Waite of Auckland in another Lamborghini.

Dunedin-based brothers, Martin and Allan Dippie, are also SSCC members, and they will pilot a Porsche 992 GT3 Cup car in Class 1 in the 3 Hour race, a race in which they finished third last year.

The other club member in the 3 Hour is Barry Moore of Queenstown, who will team with Andy Giles in Class 3 in a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR car.

The Dippies’ will also compete in Class 1 of the Class 1/2/3, 1 Hour race earlier in the day where they will be up against Jordan Michels of Invercargill in his Marc Mustang.

Michels won the corresponding race in 2023 in the car. Also on the grid will be Scott O’Donnell of Invercargill, contesting Class 3, in his Hyundai i30N TCR, and John Beck of Invercargill, well known for his successes in motorcycle racing, in a Porsche 991.1 GT3 Cup, competing in Class 2.

David Rogers of Auckland, who has been a member of the local club for several years, will line up in his McLaren 570S GT4 in Class 3.

Another club member, Steve Scoles of Cromwell, will be at the wheel of his Ginetta G56 Evo in Class 3. In an unusual occurrence, his grandson, Nieko Scoles, will race in the other 1 Hour race for Class 4/5 cars in his Mazda MX-5.

Tickets for Saturday’s Endurance races are on sale now at E Hayes & Sons at a cost of $15 plus any applicable charges, while gate sales are just $20. Children 14 & under, accompanied by an adult, are free.

On-track action commences on Saturday with qualifying at 9:00 a.m.

The following day, Sunday 5 October, a day of Club Saloon racing takes place at the circuit. Admission for the public will be free on Sunday, with on-track action from 10.30am. Races include a marble draw grid start contest and a team race.
