Christchurch racer Mac Templeton will return to the Bridgestone GR86 Championship this coming season and hopes to take a big step toward a Supercars career.

Last season, Mac’s rookie year, he was teammate to champion Chris White at Neale Motorsport, and he became increasingly competitive as the championship season progressed. He says he learned a lot.
“Last season was all about learning actually,” said the amiable 19-year-old.
“I had a great team in Neale Motorsport with lots of experience and smarts behind me, helping me to develop my skills each session.
“Last year was tough, but I am quietly confident heading into this season with the same crew behind me. That has to be an advantage, and I plan to bring my learnings into this season and put my best foot forward.”
A successful campaign, again with Neale Motorsport and once more supported by New World St Martins, will see Mac take a big step towards his long-term goal of driving in the Supercars Championship.
“I would love to become a Supercars driver; it has been my dream for as long as I can remember, and this championship is the perfect step in the right direction.
“It teaches the fundamental skills needed to succeed in the sport, and is an ideal championship for young drivers who are looking to progress in their careers.”
For now, though, he can’t wait to get stuck into the Bridgestone GR86 Championship battles, which will be part of the country’s premier NextGen Championship series at some of the country’s most iconic race tracks.
“I am looking forward to the close, hard racing the most, to be honest,” he added. “And just that pure excitement of the competition and never knowing what will happen in the racing.”
It all begins for Mac and the other Bridgestone GR86 Championship runners at Taupo International Motorsport Park over the weekend of November 13-15 at the NextGen series’ Season Opener.
