McLaughlin, Dixon to start from 9th and 10th at Road America

Scott McLaughlin and Scott Dixon will start from the fifth row of the grid, while Alexander Rossi claimed pole position at Road America

The weather was a significant talking point through qualifying with light rain around the circuit, though it held off through the session, not enough rain falling to affect drivers on track.

Group 1

Rossi lead the times after the first run with almost 2 tenths over Colton Herta who sat second.

Dixon was the first car to get back on track for the final run, but it was his lap right at the end of the session that would secure his place in the Fast 12 session.

Romain Grosjean sat at the top of the timesheets at the end of the session, narrowly ahead of Rossi, with Herta, Dixon, Simon Pagenaud, and Callum Ilott making up the top six that advanced to the next stage.

Group 2

Newgarden held a narrow lead over Alex Palou after the first run of the session, with the same threat of rain around the circuit as in the previous session.

McLaughlin put together a strong lap at the end of the session that would see him narrowly hold onto a place in the top six.

Newgarden ended the session more than half a second quicker than Pato O’Ward, Palou, Rosenqvist, Ericsson and McLaughlin moved through to the Fast 12 session.

Fast 12

Before anyone could complete their first lap of the session Ilott made contact with a tyre barrier, before finding himself stuck in the gravel trap bringing out the red flag.

The session went back to green flag conditions with just over five minutes left in the session, meaning drivers wouldn’t have the time for two runs.

Palou led Dixon after their first lap, though Newgarden would jump to P1 shortly afterwards.

Herta bumped Newgarden off the top spot at the end of the session, with Ericsson, Palou, O’Ward and Rossi advancing to the final round of qualifying.

McLaughlin and Dixon missed out on the Fast 6 instead, starting from ninth and 10th for tomorrow morning’s race.

Fast 6

Rossi set a 1.44.8 minute lap on the primary black tyres to claim pole position ahead of Newgarden who was less than a tenth of a second off the pole-winning time.

Palou and Ericsson will start from the second row of the grid with Herta and O’Ward on row three.

The race at Road America will get underway at 4.30 am Monday morning.
