It’s finally time for 2023 to kick into gear and bring usour first Motorsport Diary of the year for Kiwis competing overseas!

There are two international events of note this weekend with the opening round of Formula E complimented by the Dubai 24 Hour.

We’ve also got a great weekend of racing at out very own Highlands Motorsport Park. We’ll have more on that later today!

Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans get their 2023 Formula E season underway at the Mexico City E-Prix this weekend.

New Gen3 cars means picking a favourite will be difficult but both Kiwis featured strongly during pre-season testing in Spain last month.

Evans will be out to prove a point as he returns for Jaguar TCS Racing after finishing runner-up year. He won four races in 2022 but was let down by a tough opening two rounds.

Cassidy is also one continuing to establish himself around the world, achieving success in a number of series including Formula E. He finished 11th overall with Envision Racing in 2022 and had one race win to his name, in New York.

Earl Bamber: Dubai 24 Hour

  • Where: Dubai Autodrome, UAE
  • Times:
    • Qualifying: Saturday 4.10am
    • Race: Sunday midnight until Monday midnight
  • How to Watch: Motorsport.tv live stream

Earl Bamber will team up with Grove Racing as the Dubai 24 Hour begins the 2023 24H GT Series and TCE Series.

Competing in the GT3 class in the team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, the team has become somewhat of a Trans-Tasman all-star lineup with Anton de Pasquale, Stephen Grove and Brenton Grove joining the Kiwi.

It’s the first race of a big year for Bamber who will go on to compete in the World Endurance Championship with Chip Ganassi Racing as well as other select enduros.
