Scott Dixon – Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (KNZM)

New Zealand’s most successful current-day racing driver, Scott Dixon, has been awarded a knighthood for services to motorsport.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in IndyCar history, Dixon’s achievements include 59 race victories and six IndyCar Series championships, cementing his legacy in the United States’ premier open-wheel category, often described as America’s answer to Formula 1.

Beyond his remarkable on-track success, Sir Scott has been a hero and inspiration to generations of young fans. He has also been tireless in his philanthropic efforts, fundraising for children’s charities including CanTeen and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, demonstrating that his impact extends far beyond the racetrack.

Tony Quinn – Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM)

Tony Quinn, of Cromwell, has been recognised for services to motorsport and the community.

One of the most influential figures in Australasian motorsport, Quinn owns three motor racing circuits in New Zealand and is the driving force behind the NextGen NZ Championship.

Through the Tony Quinn Foundation, he has provided significant support to emerging talent and continues to fund the StreetSmart road safety programme, delivering life-saving education to young drivers across the country.

His ongoing investment in the sport has had a lasting and transformative impact on New Zealand motorsport.

Brian Davies – Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM)

Brian Rex Davies, of Palmerston North, has been recognised for services to motorsport following more than 50 years as a Clerk of the Course at the highest levels of the sport.

A highly respected and decorated official, Davies was awarded the Clerk of the Course D’Honneur by MotorSport New Zealand in 2023. Renowned for his deep understanding of the sport’s rules, his calm authority, and his ability to respond decisively in extraordinary circumstances, he has been instrumental in delivering safe and successful events in New Zealand and overseas.

Among his most notable contributions was his role in the Wellington Street Races of the 1980s and 1990s. His expertise was further recognised internationally when he was appointed FIA representative for a World Land Speed Record attempt in 1995.

MotorSport New Zealand President Deborah Day said the honours reflected the breadth and depth of contribution across all levels of the sport.

“These honours recognise three very different, but equally powerful contributions to motorsport,” said Day.

“Sir Scott Dixon represents the very pinnacle of international success and inspiration. Tony Quinn’s vision and investment have shaped pathways and opportunities for countless competitors, and Brian Davies exemplifies the dedication and professionalism of our officials, who are the backbone of the sport.”

“On behalf of MotorSport New Zealand, we congratulate all three of them and are incredibly proud to see their service and impact recognised at a national level.”
