Greg Murphy says he still intends on having a role with the Supercars broadcast next year, albeit in a more trimmed back position than previous seasons.
The four-time Bathurst 1000 winner has been a figurehead within the Supercars pitlane broadcast team since retiring from driving in 2014. He has also acted as a lead commentator of the Super2 Series.
However, Murphy wasn’t seen during the 2020 season, owning to him being stuck on this side of the Tasman amid a period of travel uncertainty.
Supercars are set for a significant shakeup of its broadcast roster for next season as part of a new television deal. Murphy’s fellow pit reporters Mark Larkham and Riana Crehan have already been confirmed as absent from the line-up.
But in a social media post, Murphy said he still hopes to be apart of the 2021 commentary team at a handful of events next year.
“I’m not going to be an intrinsic, full-on part of the broadcast next year either,” said Murphy.
“There’s just challenges around also living in New Zealand and the travel side of things, and [that] just changes the way it’s all going to be done in 2021.
“So, basically, [there is] not enough spots for everybody, so I’m not going to be doing a full season.
“But, I will be looking at things still involved with Supercars and a few things around the New Zealand event later in the year, wherever that may be. I’ll also likely probably to turn up at Bathurst to do some stuff there too.
“So, I still keep a connection, and it’d be nice if it was six years – it was only really five-and-a-tiny-bit because obviously this year. But it’s a long time, and it’s gone very, very quickly.
“I’ve worked with some great people and I know I’m going to maintain great relationships over many, many years to come with all those people but, you know, things do change, and we deal with it and we move on.
“That’s cool, I’m happy with that.”
The opening round of the 2021 Supercars Championship will be the Mount Panorama 500 on February 26-28.
New Zealand is scheduled to hold its round over November 6-7 at either Pukekohe Park or Hampton Downs.

These TV Broadcasters are morons, agree with Rob G, Skaife seriously needs to be gone, & as much as Lowdnes is a legend driver he’s no commentator.
Murph, Larko, & Crehan should be staying.
Yet more motorsport I will watch less.
