A new documentary called ‘Kiwis – Born to Fly’ has recently been given the go ahead and will follow the journeys of Kiwi racing drivers like Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin, Marcus Armstrong and more competing in the United States.

The film will be produced by Perspective Group in partnership with its supporting sponsors and will be screened exclusively on Sky Sport NZ in 2023.

Kiwis – Born to Fly sits down with kiwi drivers Dixon, McLaughlin and Armstrong in the NTT IndyCar Series along with Hunter McElrea in the Indy NXT by Firestone series and Jacob Douglas in USF2000. It’s aim is to uncover and showcase the many New Zealanders that make up the larger part of the series in various roles behind the scenes in addition to the drivers.

This documentary will highlight the many talents New Zealand has in world Motorsport both in and out of the car. This includes the NTT IndyCar Series and its feeder classes that represent some of the toughest and most demanding racing in all motorsport with Kiwis playing a major role in this. It aims to inspire more Kiwis to follow their dreams from driver to engineer.

Highlighting the skills of those that hail from New Zealand, the documentary delves into their lives, what it’s taken to get where they are today and how they are spread over various teams from engineering to management roles within the NTT IndyCar Series and within the greater motorsport industry.

The documentary will showcase the personal insights of these people and uncover the skills and talents that so many New Zealanders give in their everyday lives that are seldom known in their country of birth. Names such as Julian, Harcus, Cleave and Finch are just some that will open viewers eyes to the sport they work in and hearing it in their own words. It’s an effort to inform viewers of just what it means to be a Kiwi within this sport via various roles surrounding the NNT IndyCar Series or the sport.

Perspective Group is honoured to be able to produce this project exclusively for Sky Sport NZ to supplement its NTT IndyCar Series coverage in 2023. There are many incredible stories along with personal moments that the documentary will highlight and just what a power house nation New Zealand has become in global motorsport along with the extra element of national pride. These really are Kiwis that were simply Born to Fly.

The documentary will be produced by well known respected award winning producer and director David Turner, Perspective Group’s founder.

“I’m delighted to be able to bring this story to life, it’s been a passion of mine for years. Seeing all these guys that work in the series and the common factor they come from New Zealand is a great story. We now have the chance to reflect on their story and talents for the first time on Sky,” says Turner.

“I can’t thank the supporting sponsoring partners enough they have been so encouraging since first approached in mid-2022 ,without them it simply wouldn’t have transformed into this informative documentary. Each of these sponsors have enabled this to transpire into the creation of this and have had to put up with my constant calls since mid-2022.”

“Equally the team at Sky Sport NZ for belief in this project and supporting the idea. Along with Allison Melangton and Brian Annakin at Penske Entertainment, and Kate Davis and Dave Furst at IndyCar whom I have worked with on this for months and hassled them so much over this time and for giving me this opportunity to embark on this great story of so many New Zealanders.”

The documentary will screen on Sky Sport 5 in 2023 at a date to be confirmed shortly by Sky NZ. Supporting presenting sponsors are Dayle ITM, Armstrong Motor Group, Toyota Gazoo Racing NZ, Creame Insurance, Giltrap Group, McElrea Racing and C&R Developments.
