Hayden Paddon and co-driver John Kennard hold the early lead after going fastest on Friday morning’s Super Special Stage of Rally Islas Canarias on the Canary Islands.
The Kiwi, driving BRC Racing Team’s Hyundai i20 N Rally2, lodged a time of 1min 39.8sec over the 1.88-kilometre Las Palmas de Gran Canaria stage, topping fellow Hyundai driver Andrea Nucita by just 0.4 seconds.
“We just tried to keep it really neat and tidy and get the donuts bang on,” said Paddon. “It was actually quite an enjoyable stage, slippery but a good way to start the weekend.”
The stage presented drivers with a unique start to the weekend by including a section inside the Gran Canaria Arena’s basketball court, where 8000 fans packed out the stadium.
Rally Islas Canarias returns tonight with the first run over the 14.95-kilometre Gáldar special stage beginning at 9.28 pm.
