Harry McDonald has set the standard for his European GT campaign over the weekend, scoring second in the Pro-Am GT4 Scandinavia class in race two at Spa-Francorchamps.

Although the young New Zealand driver is relatively new to the sport of motor racing, his exploits have proven successful on the circuit with the Kiwi making his way through karting with eight wins and finding success in the Formula Ford and 2022 BMW Drivers Championship.

However, he recently got behind the wheel of Toyota Gazoo Racing Sweden’s GR Supra GT4 for the two-race GT4 European Series event at Spa after only receiving the new car a week prior to racing. McDonald was then thrown into the deep-end after completing 20 laps of the 7km Belgian circuit prior to qualifying.

The Friday evening saw race one get underway with McDonald and teammate Tommy Gråberg scoring fourth in the Pro-Am class overall.

Come Saturday and the Kiwi wound up on the podium in second position alongside Gråberg with the team’s sister car driven by Hans Holmlund and Emil Skärås winning the race.

The Kiwi’s success over the weekend was complemented with full backing from Rodin Cars for his European GT4 campaign.

“The Rodin Cars support is a great boost for my confidence, and a real privilege for me to carry the Rodin brand on the European GT4 stage, I value the professionalism and driven goal to be the best Rodin brings to my career,” said McDonald.

McDonald joins a list of New Zealanders who are backed by Rodin Cars including FIA Formula 2 driver Liam Lawson and British Formula 4 race winner Louis Sharp.

Rodin Cars founder David Dicker commented: “We are incredibly excited to partner with Harry as he makes this step in his career. At Rodin Cars, we are always looking for top young drivers to compete at the highest level, and Harry certainly fits that description.

“We look forward to seeing what he can achieve in Europe over the coming months and are certain he will do New Zealand proud.”

McDonald heads to Sweden next for the Anderstorp round of GT4 Scandinavia on September 10 to 11.
