Porsche recently took to Daytona International Speedway in the US to test its new LMDh prototype, the 963, resulting in some spectacular imagery.
Before it makes its racing debut at the same circuit in January next year for the 24 Hours of Daytona, Porsche Penske Motorsport put the 963 through its paces for what was 2274km of hard driving in all manner of conditions.
The 500kW hybrid was faced with temperatures around 35 degrees Celcious while high humidity and regular rain showers pushed both the car and its driver to the limit.
However, the first two days of testing didn’t quite get off to the best of starts with a nearby lightning storm halting proceedings for around 90 minutes.
Works drivers Dan Cameron, Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet each got behind the wheel of the car as team captain Roger Penske watched on.
There were no notable problems to report on following the test.
The Porsche 963 will make its make its racing debut in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship on January 28 to 29, 2023 at the 24 Hours of Daytona. It will also race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year against the likes of Ferrari, Toyota, Peugeot and Cadillac.
