Pukekohe to be sent off with Flying Farewells

Three thrilling days of action, eight stunning classes of cars, a massive 31 races followed by the chequered flag flying for the final ever time at Pukekohe Motorsport Park with a trio of Flying Farewells.

Pukekohe’s historic final race meet continues to shape up as an event not to be missed with the announcement of the Hamilton Asphalts Saloons Flying Farewell, Eric Mallard Fast Forty Flying Farewell and the Pukekohe Flying Farewell Salter Cartage Super Trucks.

Flying Farewells are a tradition ingrained in New Zealand’s motorsport history and have featured heavily at events in years gone by to see out race meets. The grid sees a mix of cars from the classes that have competed pitted against each other in a winner-take-all handicap race.

These three races will conclude the final motorsport event at the prestigious South Auckland circuit over the weekend of 24 to 26 March and will all fittingly be run using the original circuit layout with the long back straight.

The first of these will be the Hamilton Asphalts Saloons Flying Farewell which will feature up to 40 competitors from the Nexen Tyre Mazda Racing Series, Motul Honda Cup, Pre-65 Super Minis, Ryco 24.7 V8 Utes Championship and Production Car classes.

Entered competitors from these classes will compete over 15 laps in a handicap format set to provide some thrilling action and putting everyone in with a chance to win.

The Eric Mallard Fast Forty Flying Farewell will follow this with competitors from the faster classes of the weekend able to take part. This will see a stunning array of Colin Waite Open GT, Super V8 and Napa Central Muscle Car machinery take to the track.

Expect plenty of noise and some exhilarating competition as some of New Zealand’s fastest cars and top drivers compete in this 20-lap handicap race. Then that leaves the finale.

The Pukekohe Flying Farewell Salter Cartage Super Trucks will bring an end to Pukekohe’s tenure as a motor racing circuit with the Napa Super Trucks rumbling into action.

Up to 13 trucks will take part in this historic occasion which sees out the days of racing at a circuit which has developed the careers of countless great drivers and created so many unforgettable memories for fans.

A stunning range of silverware will be up for grabs in each of the Flying Farewells, giving the winners a priceless heirloom to go straight to the mantelpiece.

There’ll also be plenty of off-track action for fans to soak up the occasion and build a few more memories of their days at the venue.
