It was a quiet day for Nick Cassidy as the Cerumo Toyota squad set the pace on the final day of SUPER GT’s pre-season testing at Okayama.
Sho Tsuboi topped the timesheets in the dying moments of the morning session, setting a best time of 1m 18.123s, ahead of Cassidy’s TOM’S team-mate Yuhi Sekiguchi. The session was beset with no fewer than five red flags.
Hiroaki Ishiura was the fastest in the afternoon session setting a 1m 18.193, marginally slower than that of Tsuboi’s time earlier in the day.
Sekiguchi’s time in the #36 TOM’S Supra in the morning session put him third overall behind both Cerumo entries, while Baguette was the fastest Honda in fourth place.
Nissan veteran Ronnie Quintarelli was second-fastest in the afternoon. Setting a time of 1m 18.409s, Quintarelli remained at the top of the leaderboard for most of the session until Ishiura eclipsed it one hour into the session. His time was good enough for fifth overall.
The ARTA squad failed to replicate the pace shown on the first day of pre-season testing. Tomoki Nojiri set the sixth-fastest time of the day ahead of Naoki Yamamoto in the Team Kunimitsu NSX-GT.
Meanwhile, it was another quiet day for Cassidy and Ryo Hirakawa, with the #37 TOM’S Toyota down in 13th place, making it the second-slowest Supra of the day.
Yuji Kunimoto crashed at the Moss S in the morning session, which ended the day for the #19 Bandoh Toyota Supra.
Kunimoto was taken to the medical centre following the incident, but escaped injury.
The 2020 SUPER GT Series is scheduled to begin at Okayama on April 11, subject to the situation pretaining to the coronavirus pandemic.
