Randle pips Waters to claim pole in Tickford front-row lockout in Tasmania

Tickford Racing lock out the front row for this evening’s race in the Tasmania SuperSprint after Thomas Randle pipped teammate Cam Waters for pole in this afternoon’s three-part qualifying.

Randle’s 50.662-second flyer in Q3 was just 0.0440 seconds faster than Waters’ best effort and was the quickest of the session.

David Reynolds will line up from third, falling 0.005 seconds short of Waters in the tight session, where less than one-tenth separated the top five drivers.

Championship leader Will Brown will start from third, ahead of Jack Le Brocq and Bryce Fullwood.

Saturday’s pole-sitter, Broc Feeney, was unable to replicate his qualifying heroics and will line up seventh next to Brodie Kostecki. Cameron Hill and Tim Slade complete the top ten.

Saturday’s runner-up, Chaz Mostert, was eliminated from the second session in the eleventh, just 0.0337 seconds off the top ten. He starts alongside Andre Heimgartner, who improved from Saturday’s qualifying effort of 20th for 12th.

All five Kiwis were eliminated in Qualifying 2, with Ryan Wood 13th, Richie Stanaway 16th, Jaxon Evans 18th and Matt Payne 19th.

Opting to run on old tyres cost Saturday’s race winner Nick Percat, who qualified 24th and will start from the rear of the field. James Courtney, Macauley Jones, and Mark Winterbottom joined him in the bottom four.

This evening’s Supercars race at Symmons Plains begins at 5.05 pm.
