After taking a clean sweep of the three races in Tasmania, Shane van Gisbergen has now passed Scott McLaughlin’s win tally to sit fourth on the all time wins list.

Van Gisbergen now has the highest number of race wins of any New Zealander in the series, with Race 5 the 58th win in his career.

The recent wins also saw him pass Garth Tander’s tally, who sits tied with McLaughlin on 56 wins, both took their last wins in 2020.

Tander’s most recent win came in the 2020 Bathurst 1000, racing alongside van Gisbergen.

SVG recently spoke to Supercars.com about passing McLaughlin and Tander’s win tally.

“It’s cool, they are not only guys I respect a lot, but they are mates as well,” van Gisbergen told Supercars.com.

“Garth is also someone I looked up to, even when I started, he was always really fast, winning a lot and an exceptional qualifier.

“Then getting them to know him the last few years, it’s been pretty cool.

“It’s special but the records mean nothing to me yet, but I’m sure that they will later.”

The Kiwi now sits tied with Tander each driver taking 56 wins in a Holden, to sit fourth, behind Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes, and Mark Skaife.

Van Gisbergen took his first win in the series in 2011 with Stone Brothers Racing behind the wheel of a Ford Falcon.

SVG will now head into the third round of the championship as the championship leader. The 300 point weekend puts him 67 points ahead of Anton de Pasquale who sits second, with Will Davison a further 55 points back in third.

The 2022 season will get back underway in Melbourne April 7-10.
